Why Do We Get Wrinkles?

We will all get wrinkles as we age, why? Because as we get older our skin gets thinner, less plump with moisture and less elastic, and as a result our skin starts to sag.

Skin is made up of two main layers. The Dermis which is the under layer, this is attached to your bones and muscles by tissue. The Epidermis which is the top layer and is the skin you can see.

When you’re young the Epidermis is kept plump naturally with moisture and it has lots of elastane in it to help it stretch and shrink to match what the under layers are doing, so, when the Dermis layers move, the Epidermis moves with them and holds its smooth shape.

As we get older, the dermis gets thinner, so the elastine in it starts to sag and it’s not as affective at getting moisture to the Epidermis. The Epidermis in turn is unable to move as well with the under layers and as a result, we get wrinkles.
